DIAMOND MIDDLE SCHOOL SPRING TRACK 2006

INFORMATION ON PRACTICE:

No student is allowed to come to practice until they have handed in their permission slip to Mr. Comeau or Mr. O'Brien and have a physical on file with the nurse.

The user fee of $90 must also be turned in to one of the coaches.

Practice starts Monday, March 27.

Practice is Monday through Friday and runs from 3:00 - 4:30. All athletes should make every attempt to be at every practice.

Those students that have obligations during the week should bring a parental note to Mr. O'Brien or Mr. Comeau telling us what days they cannot make practice. These runners should make an effort to run on their own.

No runner should miss more than 2 practices during a week. If this is a problem for you then you should consider not coming out for track.

When it comes to assigning who runs what in the meets, the students who attend practice on a regular basis will get priority over those who miss practice (i.e. &endash; first heat in a sprint event or to be able to do a field event).

Team members should dress appropriately for practice. It may be cold during the early season and everyone should have sweats and possibly hats and gloves to wear.

Proper running shoes should be worn.

Practice will consist of a warm-up jog (usually one lap around the perimeter of the fields) team stretching and then workouts broken down by what event you will be participating in the meets. The first week or so of practice will be group runs to build up your running muscles. Depending on the fields these runs may be on the street or in Willards Woods.

If you are injured and cannot practice, do not come to practice and stand around. This is too much of a distraction for the other runners. Also, please bring a note from home explaining your reason for missing practice

If you are disruptive at practice you will be asked to leave and your parents will be called.

Practice ends at 4:30. Everybody must have transportation arranged at that time.

INFORMATION ON MEETS:

Everybody participates in the meets.

All runners should purchase a team shirt at Tricon Sports ($10.00)

The events are: 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600 meter runs; 4 x 100 relay; long jump, high jump, and shot put.

Each runner is allowed to do one running event, one field event, and one relay.

Field events will have no more than six entrants from each school because of the time it takes to run the field events.

Anytime there is more than one heat in an event, the first heat will be the scoring heat.

Each athlete must be aware of when his or her event is starting. Coaches will not go looking for you.

You should make every effort to cheer on your teammates during their races.

You are representing Diamond Middle School, you are expected to act in a respectable and sportsmanlike manner.

If any of your parents are interested in volunteering at home meets we can always use the help. They would time races, measure throws and jumps, and rake the sand pit.

Track meets end between 5:00 - 6:00. Parents can take you home from the meets. If you are going to get a ride with someone else's parents you must have a note from home.
