This was a very exciting year for Diamond! The team of Liz Marcil, Steve Johnson, Mark Lipson, David Greenspan, and alternate Dan Bogdanow came in first place in the Greater Boston Metropolitan Chapter competition on Saturday, February 7 at the Chelsea Middle School.
One month later, at the Wentworth Institute in Boston, they came in fourth place at the Massachusetts State competition in a state which supports 86 teams, and over 8000 students! Three of the team members qualified to participate in the Countdown Competition, which allows the top ten students to compete, head to head, in a special elimination tournament. David Greenspan finished in 6th place, Liz Marcil in 4th, and Mark Lipson in 2nd! Steve Johnson came in 13th place overall. Dan Bogdanow would have finished in 25th place, had his score been official.
Liz Marcil was one of only four students who will advance to the National Finals to be held in Washington, D.C. in May, with all expenses paid my MATHCOUNTS! She earned this by virtue of her 3rd place finish in the written competition.
Congratulations to all, and to Liz Marcil as she joins the Massachusetts State team and pursues a national title!
